The Michigan League of Handweavers 17th Biennial Fiber Show

will be held at Ella Sharp Museum of Art and History, Jackson, Michigan from April 21 to June 16.  An artists’reception will he held April 21 from 2:00-4:00 p.m.  The show’s juror will speak at 3:00 and awards will be presented.  Please see the Museum website for Gallery hours. (www.ellasharp.org)

Juror: Sherri Smith earned an M.F.A. from Cranbrook Academy of Art and is currently a professor at U of M School of Art and Design. Her current work involves weaving big pieces in strips, taking images from science, particularly from astronomy.  A gallery of her work may be viewed at http://artdesign.umich.edu/people/detail/sherri_smith

Eligibility: Each exhibiting artist must be member of the Michigan League of Handweavers.  To become a member, you may send $20. to

Entries in all areas of fiber arts are invited and each member may submit up to three entries.  Each entry must have been created since July 2010.  Work done as part of a class or workshop is not eligible.  An entry fee of $20 covers up to three submissions.  All checks should be made payable to MLH.

Categories:  Each artist is asked to place each entry in one of two categories: Fiber Art or Functional Fiber Art.  MLH will be awarding $250 for “Best of Show” in each of these categories.  Other awards will also be given.

Notification:  Notification of acceptance or rejection will be made via e-mail or phone.  Declined entries may be picked up at the time of the reception or by arrangements with Cari Wolfe at the museum.

Send in a reusable container marked MLH Fiber Show.  Include the entries with forms, a check for the return postage, the entry fee and the membership fee if you are not currently a member of MLH.  Please also include a return shipping label.

Hand Delivered Entries will be accepted at Ella Sharp Museum on April 12 and 13, 2012 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Completed forms and payment of fee(s) must accompany the entries.

Insurance: Ella Sharp Museum will insure the pieces while they are in the museum.  The artist will be required to give a complete list of the pieces presented and the value of each piece.

Installation Requirements:  All pieces must be delivered ready for hanging or display and fit through a standard door.  Any special instructions should be attached to the lower right back corner of the work along with the entry tag.  If special handling or display is required, please contact Cari Wolfe.  All accepted entries must remain on exhibition through June 16.

Exhibit Sales:  Proceeds from the sale of artist’s work will be paid within three weeks after the close of the exhibit.  The Museum will handle all sales.  Works not for sale must be marked as so.  Ella Sharp Museum will retain 30% of all sales.
