Moving On To New Horizons

In keeping with the conference theme, Michigan League of Handweavers’ 2021 Conference will be all virtual. This, being a first for MLH, is a new and exciting experience for the steering committee, the teachers and our members. The opportunity to learn from nationally renown teachers and exhibit our work will remain the hallmark of this conference. One advantage of going virtual is that the classes are spread out and none are scheduled for the same time frame. This gives our members full flexibility in choosing as many classes as they would like! Another advantage is that Fiber Artists from across the Nation and the world are invited to join also!

The conference will open January 27, 2021, 7 PM, with a Keynote Lecture by Judy Dominic on MudCloth. Seminars, workshops, and Special Events are scheduled from January through August. The schedule and a calendar of speakers, meetings, seminars and workshops are provided in this booklet.

Since all of our conference events will be presented on Zoom, members will need access to the internet, a web-camera (available on most smart phones and newer computers) and the free Zoom app for each device they will be using. More information on access and the use of Zoom is provided at the end of this booklet.

The Fashion, Fashion Accessories, Functional Fiber and Fiber Art exhibits will be judged and prizes will be awarded. Exhibit entry and judging will be accomplished by digital photographs.

Awards will be announced at the Annual Meeting held on Zoom on June 3, 2021 at 7 PM. The exhibits will be available for viewing on our website starting on June 4, 2021.

Guild Exhibits – “Pandemic Creations”
What have your Guild members been creating during this pandemic? MLH guilds and their members are encouraged to enter the virtual non-juried Guild Exhibits. Members not affiliated with an MLH Guild are also invited to enter. Each guild entered will have separate mini-exhibits displayed on the MLH website.

Guilds wishing to participate should designate an individual who will enter their guild in this event by March 1, 2021 and then collect and forwarding photographs and information from participants to by May 1, 2021.
