Martha Town

I have been weaving for 40 years, have been a member of MLH for almost that long, and am proud to be a past-president for MLH!  I earned the Handweavers Guild of America Certificate of Excellence - Level 1 in 1986.  As a fan of twill structures, I quickly moved to multi-shaft weaving and currently weave on an 8 shaft Baby Wolf, 8 shaft Gilmore, and a 16 shaft compudobby AVL.  I love to weave functional items for the home, as well as scarves, and yardage that can be sewn into garments.  I live in Hillsdale County on a 100 acre farm, with my husband, a few cattle, and a flock of sheep that provide spinning fleeces.  Being in the countryside with wildflowers, a wide sky, and quiet wonder, provides lots of inspiration for my weaving.

Peacock Scarf
10” x 68”
Rayon / Cotton
Rosepath Twill on 8 Shafts
Body of scarf is woven as an advanced Twill, so fabric furrows and drapes nicely around the neck.
Lithuanian Gems Table Runner
17” x 37.5”
Cotton / Rayon
8 Shaft point twill design from a Lithuanian book.  I could not read the text, the drafts are a universal language!
